Check out possible dangers found in the garage that pose a threat to children in the interactive safety house.
Generally speaking, a garage is not a place where children should play or even have access to without an adult. Keep these hazards in mind.
Gasoline is an especially hazardous substance in the garage. Store gasoline in UL approved metal containers out of the reach of children.
Most garages contain dangerous & toxic chemicals like fertilizer, anti-freeze & pesticides. Keep these chemicals in a high cupboard, preferably locked.
Make sure tools are in cabinets or secured to the wall so children cannot access them or cause them to fall.
Keep car keys away from children.
Check the door sensor regularly by putting a cardboard box under the door & attempting to close the door.
Children should never be allowed to operate or play with a garage door opener or hang onto the door as it is opening.
Never let children play in cars. Never give children access to the trunk for the same reasons.
Many children have been injured & even killed when they run behind a car backing out of the garage, so be cautious.
Children playing in cars also run the risk of injuries from door slams & window entrapments.
Never leave children in a running car in the garage, even with the garage door open. An adult should always have children in view when opening or closing the garage door.
