Patient Satisfaction Data

What is Patient Satisfaction?

HCAHPS stands for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. This is a national standardized survey designed to assess patients' perspectives of hospital care for public reporting purposes and was developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ0) in collaboration with stakeholder organizations, such as the National Quality Forum (NQF).

The survey consists of 22 questions related to a patient's inpatient stay at a hospital and are reported into several categories.  Patients rate their experience and the results are reported according to the percentage of patients who gave the experience the highest scores.  These scores are publicly reported on the CMS website and allow consumers to compare hospitals on same criteria.
