Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health
Panic and Anxiety Disorder Services
Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health's Panic and Anxiety Disorders Services is offering a free lecture entitled " Freedom from Panic and Anxiety" on October 2, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The goal of this educational presentation is to begin to teach you how to successfully recover from the painful and at times crippling effects of panic and anxiety disorders. The lecture will explain how anxiety disorders develop and how to identify the early warning signs and minimize the effects of panic and anxiety attacks. You will also learn how to use techniques to overcome the thoughts, feelings and physical symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks that keep you from living a healthier and happier life.
In addition, the Center offers an eight week "Overcoming Anxiety" educational group that teaches Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which has been proven by the National Institute of Mental Health to be the most effective way to overcome most forms of panic and anxiety disorders. CBT helps you identify and challenge your anxiety-producing thoughts and beliefs, which in turn helps decrease your anxiety and panic symptoms and increase your ability to get the most out of life. The group also teaches coping skills for dealing with anxiety and panic including deep breathing and relaxation techniques, thought stopping, and other effective techniques.
