Outpatient Groups Available

Individual and family therapies are available to help you work through your emotional challenges or substance abuse problems on an individualized basis. Outpatient therapy at Alexian Center for Mental Health also offers a variety of structured therapeutic groups that address mental illness, substance abuse, socialization, and many other issues important to your recovery. These groups include:

Women's Issues Group

Women have unique concerns when managing depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. This group encourages exploration of your past and current experiences and how they relate to your current growth by helping you decrease symptoms, manage anger, increase self-care, and understand the dynamics of your relationships.

Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

This group has been designed primarily for adults struggling with borderline personality disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts, and impulsive behaviors. Participation in this group will teach new coping strategies and reinforce positive coping skills while helping group members to identify unhealthy behaviors.

Step-By-Step (Ages 30-55)

Discussions in this group will meet the needs of adults diagnosed with an affective or thought disorder. Step-by-step focuses on positive outcomes to issues in your daily life by identifying your strengths, practicing beneficial coping strategies, and improving social relationships.

Overcoming Anxiety

This 8 week group uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to overcome anxiety and panic problems.  CBT helps individuals identify and change their anxiety-producing thoughts and self-defeating beliefs, which in turn helps decrease their anxiety and panic symptoms and increase their ability to get the most out of life.  The Overcoming Anxiety group will be held on Tuesday or Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
