The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network Foundation at Alexian Brothers Health System

The Cancer Institute

The Cancer Institute at Alexian Brothers Hospital Network is the first of its kind in the northwest suburbs, representing an unprecedented scope of cancer care. We are dedicated to treating the cancer patient and their family with dignity and compassion, yet with the most advanced technology and progressive treatment opportunities available. The Cancer Institute integrates the entire continuum of care—from diagnosis to overcoming challenges cancer can impose on a person’s life. When you give to the Cancer Institute, you provide help and hope to people facing the crisis of cancer right now—family, friends and neighbors living in northern Illinois.

Support Our Mission

Breast Cancer Research Fund in Memory of Judy Oakland: The Breast Cancer Research Fund supports breast cancer advocacy, research, genetic testing to underinsured, aid and awareness, education, screening and treatment. Lance Oakland created the fund in memory of his wife Judy Oakland, who died from breast cancer in 2003 on Valentine’s Day at the age of 48. Donations to this fund will be specifically used to conduct evidence-based research to treat and cure breast cancer.

Life Enrichment Center: The Life Enrichment Center was created to help families cope with a cancer diagnosis. It houses a library with Internet access and touch-sensitive screens that provide information from the National Cancer Institute, a boutique that caters to patients’ cosmetic needs, massage therapy, fitness programs, pastoral care, nutritional counseling, and home health and hospice care. In addition, several community conferences are planned yearly to educate and inform the oncology patients and their families and caregivers. Donations to this fund will be specifically used to purchase books, videos, wigs and breast prosthetics, speaker fees and equipment, such as yoga mats.

Lung Cancer Research in Memory of Marie Hoeflinger: This annual benefit for lung cancer patients helps to fund evidence-based research that works toward a cure for lung cancer. One of the most effective treatments currently available is Proton Beam therapy. Proton Beam therapy uses a highly specialized form of radiation that delivers treatment directly to the tumor while minimizing the damage to normal tissue. It is particularly beneficial to children because it decreases the probability that healthy tissue around the tumor will become cancerous in the future. Your donation will help purchase this multimillion dollar piece of equipment.

High Risk Genetic Counseling: Genetic counseling helps empower people to reduce their risk of cancer by providing a risk assessment, education, counseling and testing, when appropriate, for patients and their families at risk for developing breast, ovarian, colon, uterine and melanoma cancers. Donations to this fund will be specifically used to reach out to the community with seminars and materials to understand their genetic predispositon.

Robin Troiani Mammacare Training Center : Named in honor Robin Troiani, a registered nurse at Alexian Brothers Medical Center for more than 20 years, the Robin Troiani Mammacare Training Center is only the fourth of its kind in the United States . The Center educates health care professionals in clinical breast examinations and community women in breast self-exams. Donations to this fund will be specifically used to purchase breast models and educational materials.
