Covered-Stent Repair of Carotid "Blow-Out"
This patient suffered a stab wound to the neck, and was having uncontrollable life-threatening bleeding despite the surgeons’ best efforts.
Delayed subtracted images show the blood and x-ray dye leaving the carotid into a pseudoaneurysm and then into the soft tissues of the neck.
A covered stent is a wire-mesh tube that is covered with a tube of medical fabric.

The stent successfully stopped the bleeding, assisting delivery of blood flow to the left side of the brain.
