When a patient is experiencing the symptoms of a stroke, it is important to act fast. Alexian Brothers Stroke Center now offers a new Urgent Stroke and Neurovascular Transfer Line, available 24-hours a day for stroke and neurovascular cases. This phone number is the gateway for all urgent stroke treatment services provided by Alexian Brothers Medical Center endovascular and neurosurgical physicians. The toll-free physician-only number makes it easier for physicians to transport and admit patients to Alexian Brothers Medical Center.

How we can help?

After a stroke patient has gone through an initial emergency room assessment, the referring physician can be connected with the Alexian Brothers stroke alert team via the Urgent Stroke and Neurovascular Transfer Line. Our skilled team is available to help physicians make the best decisions for their patient and advise them on available treatment modalities.

We offer specialized services for acute stroke patients

Our emergency department physicians and nurses are trained in recognizing signs of stroke. Our stroke alert team is available for immediate patient evaluation and management. Depending on the type of stroke, patients will undergo a neurological consultation, be evaluated for IV tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) or endovascular interventions, and/or by evaluated by a neurosurgeon for a surgical intervention.

We provide diagnostic and treatment services for the following conditions:

  • Acute stroke rescue for thrombolysis (intra-arterial tPA) or MERCI clot retrieval
    • 8 hour window for anterior circulation strokes
    • 12 hour window for posterior circulation strokes
  • Aneurysm treatment such as endovascular coiling
  • Angioplasty or stenting of cervical or intracranial atherosclerosis
  • Vascular malformations, including arteriovenous malformations and dural arteriovenous fistulas of the brain, face, and spine 
  • Intracranial hemorrhage
  • Uncontrollable epistaxis (nosebleeds)
